PROJECT :

'Gin Lane' in the 21st Century

Back in 1751 William Hogarth’s cartoon Gin Lane depicted the ruinous effects which overconsumption of gin was having on the wellbeing of Londoners.

To commemorate the 160th anniversary of the Royal Society for Public Health, I commissioned an artist Thomas Moore to reimagine Gin Lane for the 21st Century. While Hogarth’s original focused on gin, the updated version focused on the public health challenges of our time, notably the “obesogenic” environment and the impact of health inequalities.

The art has been exhibited at the Foundling Museum, and even spawned a range of posters, tea towels and other merchandise.

Only Joking!

Just a snap of me and my No. 1 fan (a.k.a. my lovely mam, Irene) living it up on the 'Costa del Newcastle'.
